I hate mosquitoes!
I am sorry God, I am sure you love them because you thought them up. I am sure they feed bats and birds and whatnot. But I hate them. I'm terrified by them. I would prefer a purgatory of burning flames to a purgatory of infernal itching.
My kids love campfires. Years of family camping does that to you. And so we have a little fire pit in our backyard. Great! But it turns out that mosquitoes also love campfires. Specifically, they love sucking the lifeblood out of campfire lovers. So we buy Citronella candles, Fly Swatters, Bug Sappers, and Raid Outdoor Super Duper (kill everything that breathes) bug spray. But they are winning. No matter how many we kill, there are MORE!
It's like reading the newspaper. After two thousand years of having the victory of the cross over sin and death, it still "feels" like the darkness is winning. What is that? Is Jesus sitting up in heaven, head in hand, sighing with disappointment?
Finally, the obvious occurs to me. The little blood suckers are breeding in the moist, dark places of my overgrown yard. The purifying light of the noonday sun cannot reach them as they hide, planning their next feast. I don't need to kill them, all I need to is bring Light to them. So I attack the overgrowth. The ground breathes a sigh of relief and grows grass again, and the little pests go elsewhere to find their supper. Now, how does my backyard help the world? The world is just made up of backyards.
We who are the Children of Light, need to become "totally Light". This is not possible for us, but nothing is impossible for God. And as we surrender to Him and partake of His Bread of Light, He invites us to "Become the Bread" ourselves. Jesus doesn't want a mere fifteen minutes of union with us till the bread dissolves, He wants all of us, all the time. So let's let Him have His way with us. Let's become Living Hosts in the world today. And Let His "Son-Light" so shine in us that there is no dark place for darkness to breed.
